Corper Wee💃: 5 Cool Facts About NYSC You Probably Didn’t Know
1.Mrs. Mammy Marian Ochefu established the first Mammy Market within the army barracks, which is the biggest market in all NYSC camps today.
2. The NYSC scheme was founded by a Nigerian politician, Adebayo Adedeji who was the Executive Secretary of United Nations Economic Commission at that time.
3. Rev. Oluwole Adetiran composed the NYSC anthem.
4. In 1979, NYSC allowance was increased from 180 to 200 naira monthly.
5. If youth corpers marry each other within the service year, the couples are awarded 500,000 Naira by the NYSC scheme.
6. The NYSC allowance was increased in March 2011 to 19,800 naira from 9,775 naira monthly.

Some of the factors that were considered while selecting the best state to serve in as an nysc member are cost of living, job opportunities, security and state allowance.
5. OGUN STATE
Ogun state has a pretty decent standard of living and security situation. Its now fact that it has the best NYSC camp in Nigeria. The moment you enter the state, you’ll start enjoying good stuff from the camp. Ogun state doesn’t pay corpers, but there are several companies and several job opportunities for corpers. (Note, if you go for service early in the year, you may get posted to companies rather than schools).
4. AKWA IBOM STATE
I have never heard of any security issues in akwa Ibom or have you? I guess that takes away the question of security. Also cost of living ( transportation and housing cost very reasonable. Akwa Ibom is the only state that pays it's corp members after the orientation camp, the state also pays corpers #5000 every month.
3. KANO STATE😳
I know you're wondering what Kano of all state is doing on this list but to be fair the security condition had greatly improved, the state is relatively safe now though. Kano is one of the states that pays corpers, it pays corp member #5000 monthly which makes it the best northern state for NYSC. Regarding cost of leaving, the cost of leaving in the state is quite affordable yet the standard is high. It also has more industries than any other northern state, hence providing job opportunities for corpers.
2. ANAMBRA STATE
Anambra is ranked second on this list because it is one of NYSC highest paying state. The state pays corp members #9000🤭 which is higher than all other states except Lagos. Although the only problem is that Onitsha specifically is not safe due to how large the market is but it doesn't mean you can't serve there. Other major towns like Awka and Nnewi are relatively safe and pleasant to live in. As regards job opportunities, Awka (its capital) has more professional job opportunities being that it has more government and corporate offices. Now don't get me wrong, Onitsha and Nnewi has lots of industries but you are more likely to be posted to school for your PPA.
1. LAGOS STATE
Lagos is one of the safest place for a corp member to serve. The cost of living is very high so are the job opportunities available. The state government pays corp members in ministries #10,000 monthly while those in local government offices are paid #5000 monthly. Lagos is overly competitive so getting posted to the state is more of a luck thing.
